Greetings, Champions! I come to you today bearing gifts–that I again had a bugger of a time trying to keep secret from you all.
I teamed up with the wonderfully talented Ilari Nikkarikoski, who drew a beautiful black and white rendition of Verglas!
So many of the Fairy Tale stories either visit or take place in Verglas, so I’ve really been wanting to do something with it. This particular map is actually from the Snow Queen’s era–in particularly it is quite accurate for the year after the War of Ice and Snow. (You can tell that because Ensom Peak has been renamed Fresler’s Helm) However, not much, as in barely anything at all, has changed since then so it still gives you a great idea of what the country looks like.
As it was with the map of the continent, this map is not done perfectly to scale, and all the details are not exactly right, so think of it as more of a reference or guide then a perfect representation.
I’ll be posting it on the Timeless Fairy Tales page, so if you ever want to take a second gander at it, you can find it there.
Thanks for reading, Champions! I hope you have a splendid week!
So, I totally printed out the map so I could tape it to the inside cover of my Snow Queen paper backs. Thanks for posting this!
That’s a really fun idea! I’m glad you like the map and the books that much! 😀
Yay! Verglas! I love your Snow Queen books. (Well, doesn’t everyone?) So, that is cool. Are you going to make a map of all the countries eventually? And I definitely am with Rachelle on the Sleeping Beauty cover reveal idea. 🙂
I’m glad you like it! I doubt I’ll be doing maps of the individual countries, more because it would turn my timeline into a muddle than anything else. Verglas was easy to make a map of because once Rakel seals it off with her magic, it stays the same. The other countries? Not so much. As I expand the fairy tale world and tackle other stories that take place in “history” (like the girl in the glass coffin and the Queen of Hearts) countries will evolve. (As a bit of a spoiler, the occasionally mentioned country of Sarthe that exists in Rakel’s time gets sacked, and Loire is established.)
Ooh! I love spoilers and that is an awesome one. 😉 I didn’t think at all about countries changing. I just had a random thought. I can’t wait for the Queen of Hearts. (Huh, I can’t wait for a lot of things. :-O) Alice in Wonderland is hilarious and I “love” how it makes so little sense. You would do a really good retelling of that story. 🙂
The Queen of Hearts will be a lot more like the Snow Queen–where I lift familiar characters from the original story, but I use them in very different ways. 😀 It should still be a lot of fun, the Queen of Hearts will be a hilarious character. (You do get to learn a bit about her in Sleeping Beauty, too!)
I feel like Angelique is up to something or behind something (lol random thought) I love your books and this map just made my day. 🙂
Nice observation! Angelique is off on her own adventure through out the entirety of the series, and you will get to see everything she’s been up to as she’s going to get her own book–hopefully in 2018! 😀 And I’m glad you enjoyed the map!
Cool map!
And speaking of Timeless Fairy Tales, are you going to have a cover reveal for Sleeping Beauty? (pleasepleaseplease)
Myrrhlynn–my cover artist–is narrowing the photo selection down between just a few choices, so the cover isn’t ready yet–hopefully it will be soon though! (She’s also been working on a few paperback covers)
