Update: The naming contest has closed so comments on this post have been turned off. Thanks to everyone who participated! The winners will be announced in a separate post.
It’s the last week in the Summer Reading event, and while we still have an awesome giveaway going this week from the incredible author Honor Raconteur, I’m running a slightly different contest as well.
The Revived, the third book in my A. M. Sohma series “Second Age of Retha” is on track to launch in mid September, but I wanted you guys to be part of it, so I thought it would be awesome if I gave you all a chance to submit character name! That’s right, a handful of minor characters in The Revived are waiting to be named.
The contest starts today and lasts through Friday, August 31. Each reader can only submit once, and each submission can contain a maximum of two names total. If you submit more than two names, you’ll be automatically disqualified. (This is to give everyone a fair and equal chance, and to ensure that the winners have read the rules!) Submission is easy–just leave your suggestions in the comments section. (Some necessary legal stuff is down below, too.)
Here’s a few details about some of the names I’m looking for:
- female mystic
- male spellbinder
- a REALLY fantasy-ish name of either gender (We’re talking hardcore fantasy here)
- female scout
- male swordsman
- female bard
- male rogue
- a gender neutral name for a hunter
Once the Summer Reading Event ends, I’ll post the winning names! Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this last week of giveaways, recommendations, and book fun. Thanks for reading, Champions!

So, for hardcore fantasy, I’m always amazed that almost no one seems to know that the big celebration (immediate win party) at the end of the war for Lord of the Rings takes place on the Fields of Cormallen. So, maybe something like Cormalline, if it’s a woman, or even Cor, for short, for a male.
Brock, for the male rogue.
Mailifrawn Azdor or Kenna Saldron
Idk I just like the name Oliver or Ollie
Sind’onin Sed’jarek
Tsor’onin Sed’jarek
Sortisi

Pheonix ( gender neutral)
Hananias Tellius
Elgin: the meaning of the name Elgin is: Noble; white.
Arielle: Feminine form of the Hebrew Ariel (lion of God). Var: Ariela, Ariella. Can be pronounced “REL” or “AH R – EE – EH L”.

Fantasy ish name: Anarion-Celebob Haldir (a.k.a Bob, because, come on, nobody can remember such a long name)
I kind of hoped that you ment 2 names per character, but apparently not… To bad
So my two names are: Arrow and Sigrid ( reminds me of secret 😉 )
Female scout: Zeeyo (see you/ cju)
female mystic: Mab
Gwyllion
Cassandra
Varaania for the female mystic or fantasy name, and Valen for the female scout.
Ooh, wow, there are so many great names submitted already. But here’s what I’ve come up with!

I am offering my top two names that I believe would fit the world of Retha.

male swordsman- Mr. Stabby (Tom)
Can’t wait for the next book. As a person that appreciates puns, Axellent made me crack up. Here’s my usernames: Glowrious for male spellbreaker (hehehe), or Silhouette could work for either the female scout or male rogue.
My sister has always loved the name tobias kale and i love the name meghan.
DragonRider_27
DuskWing
Not that you need any more suggestions, but my recent experience with D&D brought ‘Nat_Won’ to mind. ‘Dee_20’ (or something similar) could also work.
Annabunny
Also
Star Shower/ Starshower
Banditcow
Melody Haunt (like a haunting melody 😊)

Konk – Male Rogue, master of dual sword combat, Chaotic Good alignment, kind of a robin hood of sorts type of character, stands up for those who can’t stand up for themselves, regardless of who you are. Was my first character back when World of Warcraft came out. 😀
Another suggestion if these are “player names” and not npc’s is Balzac, name of a city, but also a clever way around naming policies for the immature male player 😉

Saiya for the Female Scout
Sonata for Female Bard
It dawned on me last night while I was trying to go to sleep that “Gregorian Chant” would be a really funny name in a video game (if the late-night humor doesn’t translate, sorry about that).
And since I’m on a musical kick, I’m nominating “Metronome” as an awkward but music-related name for a female bard.
Vanae
Ariadne
Sabrina (or Rina as a nickname)
and Dayana
thank you so much 😄💜
Female scout: Lythwyn Silvermane
Female mystic: Maelyss Alduin
Female mystic – Tarmiala “Mia” Zharge

My friends and I played a LOT of MMORPGs and we ended up using two names repeatedly: Minstrel Cycle and Shooty D’Arrow, :D. So if you’re willing to accept bad puns for your bard and hunter/scout/ranger, I’d love to see one of us in your story!
Puddles
DragonFruitJuice
For female bard Violin-t (username pun off of violent, Vi for short). For gender neutral hunter name Rowan (like the tree)

FrigynSkadi- mystic, really fantasy-ish name.
A mash up of three Norse goddesses. Frigga goddess of beauty, love and marriage. Sigyn goddess of loyalty and faith. And Skadi the “snowshoe” goddess; a goddess of winter and hunting in the mountains.
Nicknames can range from something “normal” like Adi or something more silly like Rigy.
Matt (Egyptian Goddess of Order) – Female Mystic
Artemis (Greek Goddess of the Hunt) – Female Scout
Audire -(it’s the latin root of the word audio) I thought for the female bard but could be anything really.

Pekipaki- Tongan name of a tiny blue jellyfish that has a huge sting. You never see these guys coming! They blend so well with the ocean, and even on the sand they’re so small you end up sitting on these without realizing it. Lol. Could be fun for a hunter or a rogue.
Talamasina – Tongan name of a Princess, kind of translates to ‘story of white ‘ or ‘telling the white’. Could be a fun name for a mystic or a bard.
🙂 Happy name choosing to you!
Rwyneth, Kippera
I just thought, for the latter, you can have “Kip” for short or something

Arcane Winter (female)
Thyane Bloodstone (male or female)
Lopt Seawind (female, if you wanna do male would be Loki seawind)

Athena Rayne (female)
Isadore Bellablanca(female)
(These may or may not be my gamer tags, and names of characters, but have at them. Lol)
Rhoswyn as the female scout, and Cavan as the male swordsman
I reckon a LOTR universe name or a King Arthur kinda name would be cool 😀
Genevieve for female bard
Brynn Swiftfoot for a female scout

In case any one is wondering, the name Larsavis came from the names Lasaraleen and Aravis from The Horse and His Boy in the Chronicles of Narnia.
I thought I was the only adult that still loves “the Horse and His Boy”. ❤️
I like The Horse and His Boy too!!! It’s just sad that no one films it bc the Pevensies are only only in one scene! 🙁 it has intrigue, adventure, and a “wilder” Aslan. Sometimes I wonder if it would have been more popular out of the set as a stand alone.
Maybe my favorite of the series! We’ve pulled a lot of gamer handles out of this book, too … my brother-in-law still mains with Tisroc, may he live forever.
HORSE AND HIS BOY!!!!!
One of my all time favs!!!!

Percival Blackdragon – male swordsman (this was my LOTRO main for years and would be awesome if it was a book character) Gremlyn Pursestrings – Male Rouge – seems like an appropriate rouge name.
male spellbinder – Ciarán O’Callaghan
female bard – Kabrina (Brina) Harper
Keza and Hobbs
Female Mystic: Arabella
Male Spellbinder: Gwain
Suggestions: Aurora for any female and Raven for any male. And a comment about naming – Please make all the names very dissimilar. I read fast and HATE it when an author names two or more characters very similar names. Chuck and Chase. Mary and Maria. Jose and Joe. Areile and Araible. Evan and Eva. Unless they are twins or from the same tribe or clan or something, then I pay attention, but the rest of the time I just register the look of the name and go on. Later I am into a scene and get yanked out because the character is doing something that makes no sense. Oh, that isn’t Miles, it is Mike. Now, who is Mike? Help! And fantasy books can be the worse because so many of the names are made up and there is no associations to each in my brain. So, PLEEEEASE, help a reader. Thanks. PBB
Oh this is true with my dyslexic brain too. I read super fast but struggle with Proper Nouns can’t read Russian novel because too many names are the same shape.
Oh, I have the same problem!!!
“Sauron” vs “Saruman” caused me no end of confusion the first time through LOTR…
Sparkly Unicorn- weird fantasy name
Hunter- hunter
I thought they would be pretty ironic…
Hunter is such an awesome name for a hunter.
I think Hunter could be a great name for a non-hunter too. Oh the comedy of explaining over and over that you associate with something completely different from your namesake 🙂
ill go with what i hope to name my kids one day: Phoenix and Siren <3 for whichever characters youd like~
