Greetings, Champions! I know many of you are working on your own books or aspire to write your own story! Have you participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)? It takes place every November when thousands of people join together with the goal to finish a 50,000 word novel before the end of the month.
The main website (https://nanowrimo.org/) has a ton of resources to help you track your writing progress and keep the motivation going!

This year is one of the first times in a long time when my writing schedule works out so I’ll be writing a book during the month of November! (It’s the first book in the Angelique series for those who are curious!) For those of you participating, I want to help you out! Below are links to my Author resource page and Writing Tips I did as a part of a previous blog post series.

I’ll try to keep you guys updated on my progress, but I’m a bit nervous because Angelique’s first book is probably going to be more in the 80,000 word range, which means I’ll have to push it to finish in the month. If anyone wants to add me as a NaNoWriMo writing buddy the profile I’m using is: kmshea (no spaces or periods).
How about you guys? Are any of you going to attempt it?
Rhea: I just re-read Stilts and I realize like, they literally cant be the same people lol. But they’re SO similar. And their back and forth banter as partners is identical. So weird.
As far as moderators go, I feel like we’re all adults and can refrain from ugliness but maybe whoever creates it can just delete anything rude? I dunno, man! I just wanna fangirl with y’all lol
Nice goal with the word count! Do you tend to edit up or down? I always seem to edit up, so even though it looks like I’ll be ending my novel just under the limit, I also plan on editing during November. It usually ends up adding another 8-10k cause I tend to skimp on details at the beginning.
And your writer’s resources were a huge help to me! So thanks again for that.
Wow, 80,000 words is a lofty goal! Best of luck to you!
I’ve never done NaNo proper, though I did do Camp one summer and set myself a low-ish goal (30,000 words I think) for a story I was already working on. My preferred writing style just isn’t conducive to getting everything out in a rush with the idea of going back and editing later; I prefer to edit and refine as I go so my pace is slow and steady (I’ve been working on the same story since January, but I’m in the home stretch). My writing partner-in-crime Story does NaNo and both camps every year, around a full time job and various community activities so I know what goes into it. I salute anyone who signs up for the endeavor!
Oh man, I want to so much!!! Alas, college classes and papers take precidence… Someday, though…someday I will attempt NaNoWriMo!!!
Oh my god!!!
Angel’s story is coming on…
Your writing is becoming really fast now.
I can’t wait to read snow white and angel’s story.
Say, will we get to know the title of her first book before snow white’s release?
Off topic. Sorry not sorry. I cannot wait to read your Angelique books. Any chance a message board might be added to this site, for the sake of on-going geeking out, theories and book discussion?
Every time you post about future books I feel like the fry meme, “shut up and take my money!”.
I totally second this motion! I would love to have a forum where we could all talk.
Amen to that.
Though in a way the recent blog post about snow queen has become a sort of informal chat board. It is so much fun!!
If people are interested, and if it’s okay with Kitty, I could start a discord for chatting?
Also, I am super hype for Angelique’s books!! I can’t wait!! <3
Not sure what discord is- but if it means chat board or message board I vote yes. I have theories i need to air out. For example- the hellhound that Gemma rescued in Rumpelstiltskin, isnt it one of the canines gifted to Rakel and her brother by that female solider magic user that came to Verglas to asylum?
Ahh, oops! I guess I should have explained what discord is. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Discord is a free online program that allows the creation of a server – essentially an invite-only chat forum – that can then have “side rooms” for different topics (I’m picturing using ones specific for each series, just to keep things tidy! Maybe one for spoilers in the days following a new book?). Because it was originally designed as a platform for gaming, it has a couple of optional features like live streaming and video/voice calls, but really, it’s main use is just as an A+ chat board.
And yes! I think they’re ilumen dogs too. They fit the description pretty well, but I’m wondering about what kind of magic could corrupt a creature like that? And how were they captured, since they seem to be able to be experts in evasion? I have so many things I’d like to talk about!
Also! The two evil mages in Frog Prince that keep attacking Lucien, it’s like they’re clearly not the friendly funny mages from Sleeping Beautty, but at the same time the similarities unsettle me o.0. I was thinking maybe the dog was one of the actual ilumens from Snow queen. Like they lived forever maybe.
Discord! Yes!
They definitely do have similarities. Maybe they’ve been paired up for a while, like Firra and Donaigh have. I’m still wondering who the mages Angelique mentioned in Rumpelstiltskin – Blanche and Rein – are. I don’t think we’ve met them properly yet.
As for the ilumen, they might be immortal! I can definitely see them having elongated lifespans, like Enchanters do, at the very least!
YESYESYES MESSAGE BOARDS!!!
Although if we go for message joards or forums, we’ll need moderators and/or a code of conduct, just because when you get a large group of people together, things can start to slide downhill almost without realizing it.
But you’re right, we need something – desperately! The comments section works, but only to a point.
Thanks so much for reminding me! I forgot, but I think I can catch up a day. I’m so ready to do it this year!
Hey, yesterday, the first day of November, I was totally freaking out because the story I’m working on is still in the stages of the outlining process. I’ve done NaNoWriMo every year since I was in fourth grade (*cringes* don’t think about it), but I do it on the Young Writers’ Program because it is SO much easier and anyway I’m not eighteen yet. NaNo is really fun and I’m glad you have the chance to participate this year!!
