We’re going into week two of our Read-Along, which means this week we’re jumping into Between Shifts.
There’s a body beneath the skip bins. Fae on the forklift. A vampire in the manager’s office. And there’s definitely something skeevy going on in the locker rooms.
Hi. I’m Pet. Well, not exactly Pet. I am a pet.
I was meant to stay out of it, but somebody’s gotta do something when humans are being killed by Behindkind creatures.
Lucky for me, my owners are just as dangerous and inhuman as the bad guys…
…maybe more.
As with all the books in this series Between Shifts is available to purchase, or to read via Kindle Unlimited. We’re going to discuss this book this Saturday, June 15.
And to kick off this week, we’ve got another another little snippet from W. R. Gingell herself!
Kitty: I’ve been dying to know–do you have a favorite character out of Zero, Athelas, and JinYeong?
W. R.: I DO have a favourite, but since I’ve already told my fans on the facebook page that I have a favourite and he doesn’t get the girl, so to speak, I don’t dare say which one he is! It will have to remain a secret until the final book, when all will be made clear (and I reveal him in a flourish at the end!)
Kitty: Oohhh, that gives me a very, very bad feeling…. But our next question: City Between is set in Tasmania, why did you decide to place it there?
W. R.: I decided to place it in Tasmania because that’s where I live at the moment, and because Hobart is a delightful amalgamation of old and new that constantly gives me joy (and ideas). Having said that, if I’d still been living in Queensland when I wrote this series, it would have been set there instead.
Kitty: That’s awesome–and very fitting considering the whole between/behind themes of the books! Lastly, as we’re heading into book two of this series, what’s one thing you–as the author–would want readers to know?
W. R: Hm. Since this is Between, things are not always as they seem—and things that one believes to be true, are not always true. Everyone knows about the unreliable narrator, but people sometimes forget that everyone is their own narrator—and the best of us are unreliable…
(Which is my way of saying ‘You fae think you’re pretty flamin’ clever, don’t you? But you’re not always right!’ blows raspberry)
Kitty: Okay, now that was a real truth bomb! And also that’s pretty fun to hear. I love Pet’s Psychos, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them humbled a bit. But thank you again for answering these questions for us! I can’t wait to discuss the next book.
