Hello, Champions! Please allow me to shout a big “THANK YOU!” for Reign of Magic’s amazing launch! It has done really well, and I know it’s because of the loyalty and support of you Champions! Thank you for everything you do — from leaving honest reviews to spreading the news about the series. So in honor of all of that, let’s party!
That’s right, it’s time for the bonus short story–this one is told from the view point of Pegasus!

I hope you enjoy it! It was so much fun to pull back the curtains on Pegasus. I so badly wanted to name the story “Pumpkin Spice Pegasus” in honor of how he met Evariste, but Pegasus would hate that so I very generously altered the title.
I also want to say a thank you to your patience! Normally I try to post my short stories sooner, but I was way behind on my work last week and this week because my collie–Perfect Dog–was sick. We had a bunch of late nights, daily visits with her vet, and a trip to the emergency vet, but I am happy to report she is doing so much better now!
So, what do you of Pegasus after this short? Did anything surprise you? Let me know in the comments down below! And once again, thank you for reading!
This was amazing, thank you!
Thank you for the laugh I really needed that right now.
I really love your short stories, you can understand more about the characters.
What a fun story. I always wondered what Evarist had done that Pegasus was obliged to him. I cannot wait to see where he and Angelique’s adventures take them. Every story has made this world richer!
I loved it!! I always wondered how on earth Evariste was able to put such a powerful creature like Pegasus under an obligation. Also, I really want to know how that conversation went down when Evariste and Pegasus met up again after Snow White. 😂 I mean, I don’t recall him kicking Evariste or anything…
Oh no! Poor Perfect Dog!!! I’m glad she’s feeling better! Trips to the emergency vet are NOT fun!
I jus finished reading RoM, and I wanted to thank you, Kitty! It’s my easily my favorite of the threw so far – watching Angelique yell at everyone was SO SATISFYING! And I loved the Evariste scenes! And Rothbart. The soft spot I had for him is even bigger now! And I enjoyed getting to see so much new material, and seeing gaps that have been bothering me get filled in!!! (I’m a touch OCD, lol!)
And while I was growing fond of Pegasus, this short (yay!) has cemented my affection for him – as well as silences the niggling OCD voices in my head that were asking things like: “why is such a powerful creature uber-ing Angelique??? Why does he let her hug him? And if he’s so powerful, why isnt he doing more to help???” This short cleared all these up, while also making me smirk & laugh. Thank you again, Kitty!
Thank you for this short story!
I think it’s ironic that while Angelique is busy hiding from and struggling with her own awesome power, she’s ridibg a very powerful being who also is hiding his power from her because he wants to be cuddled.
I wonder how that’s going to play out??
Pegasus is definitely my favorite supporting character!
Loved it! Now I know why Pegasus does not like pumpkins and why Angelique can ride him so much. Also, when Evariste said Angelique did not know what Pegasus was capable of is brought to life. Can’t wait for the next book!
Evariste: I’m Evariste by the way.
Pegasus: I DON’T CARE
Lol, that part was so funny!
This was so cute! Now, I understand why Pegasus always attacks and glares at pumpkins in the Fairy tale Enchantress Series. I thought it was just a weird animal quirk even though he is actually a constellation but this makes a lot more sense. I also loved seeing things from Pegasus’s perspective and finally figuring out the power that he has been hiding the whole time. This was such a great story!
This is off topic but did anyone notice that in Reign of Magic when they found the cavern, the footprint that was like Angel’s, does anyone think that it was Rakels?
I thought of one of the bad ladies.
Yeah!! That thought crossed my mind exactly!! And they’re both tall for a girl so they could’ve had the same height
I noticed that too, but I thought it just meant that one of the people who retrieved the mirror was a woman; probably a evil enchantress or sorceress like Liliane or Suzu.
But if they were evil mages they couldn’t have gotten into Verglas.
Very good. I hadn’t thought of that.
They might have paid someone to retrieve it because Rakel’s magic doesn’t stop people without magic.
Another good thought. I wonder if Kitty will let us know, since it has several of us baffled! LOL!
But if they used Evariste’s magic to open a portal, they wouldn’t have had to go through Verglas to get it. After all, it’s not actually in Verglas and in RoM we saw them use the gems with Evariste’s magic to open portals.
I think all of Verglas is protected, it’s just at the borders where we see all the action. I could be wrong, though
Aha! I wondered what it was that Evariste had done for Pegasus that made Pegasus beholden to him! A pumpkin patch, how cute! Pegasus, big strong Pegasus enjoyed pumpkins! So funny! Throughout the stories I could see how he tolerated Evariste, but he cared for Angelique. She is very different with him that she is with pretty much everyone else too! She isn’t a snuggly touchy-feely kind of person, except with Pegasus. I like that. I like too that I know how powerful Pegasus is and if push came to shove he’d use that power to save Angelique. Now, to get her to stop being afraid of her war magic!
Thanks for the story.
Oh, I saw the picture of collie-perfect-dog and saw that he had been sick! I’m so glad the vet was able to help. My dog, a 9 year old husky mix (not nearly perfect, but cute) got very weak. We learned he had hypothyroidism – go figure! He’s is pestilence self again and we love it!
I always loved Pegasus, this short story made me like him even more!!! I’m so happy you decided to write from his POW, and I hope you’ll do it again in the future!
And I can’t wait to see him kick Puny Mortal Evariste’s butt!!
Thank you so much!!!

I think we kinda have, at the end of Snow White. Angelique tells Evariste to summon Pegasus (so as not to step on his toes now that he’s back) and he won’t come until Angelique calls him…and then definitely gets testy enough on Evariste that Angelique is upset by it! I enjoyed the implicit explanation for why that was so that we got in this short!
This was an amazing short story, I was screaming in my head when Pegasus said that Angel might have a big role in the battle against the chosen, because DUH Pegasus.
Thank you for this short story. It confirmed a few things that me and my sisters have suspected about Pegasus, and it was fun seeing Evariste as an awkward teenager. I have a feeling that both Pegasus’s weakness and power will come into play in later books.
So if you aren’t going to start writing book 4 until spring, what are you going to do in the meantime? I can’t really see you just not writing for the next 6 months. You love it too much to go that long without writing a book. Does this mean that book 3 of the Elves of Lessa series is next on the list?
Yay! I was eagerly awaiting this short story. Love seeing things from Pegasus’ point of view! Now you have me wondering what else he is capable of and why he decided a long time ago he wasn’t flying anyone ever again.. he’s so sweet with Angelique 😍
Also hugely enjoyed seeing Evariste as an apprentice. Clovicus turning his hair purple?! That’s great!! 😂 man I really can’t wait for book 4 and 5 and 6.. please start on them earlier? Or more short stories? 😀
I loved this short story. Getting to see what Pegasus’s emotions and thoughts were was cool. I also like how he has a tender spot for Angel.😀
Poor Perfect Dog! I’m glad she’s feeling better!
Oh man, I love this short SO MUCH! I suspected there’s a lot Pegasus is holding back, but dang! And it’s so sweet how protective he is of Angelique! I love Pegasus so much!
Oh my goodness, that was beautiful! Thank you for the laugh- and squeal-inducing short story, Kitty! <3
I knew Pegasus could communicate! He is way too intelligent not to be able to. I am glad to finally know the reason he doesn’t talk to Angelique. Pegasus is the best! Thank you for the lovely story. 😃
Thank you so much, Kitty! It is interesting to see things from Pegasus’ point of view, particularly what he thinks of Angelique and Evariste (awkward, gangly Evariste-eeh!). I feel like Pegasus’ weakness to gold might come into play in later books. Great job, as always.
I had fun making Evariste awkward–he’s so cool in the books I think he deserves to have his uncool moments shared! 😉 😀 But I’m glad you enjoyed it!
HAHA!!!!
I feel like Evariste would just laugh when his “mother” shared his awkward teen stories…at least when it’s just with us ;-).
Aww this made me love Pegasus even more and I love the fact that he’s so careful with Angel and cares about her and Evariste. He’s always been my favorite❤️
He’s been a favorite of mine, too! Though sometimes he does make me sigh because he and Evariste’s magic complicate things since they show access to the other realms where magic behaves differently. That’s the LAST thing I need to swirl into the Fairy Tale Enchantress, haha!
