I’ve been releasing some “aesthetic” teasers on Facebook and in discord, so some of you Champions have already figured it out, but the new book is…an Urban Fantasy!
It’s called Magic Forged, and it does not take place in the same world as my Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center series, but it does have a lot of humor, magic, romance, and tons of paranormal goodness like fae, vampires, and werewolves
However, even though it’s an Urban Fantasy, I have some good news for all you fairytale lovers out there, it’s inspired by a fairytale! (Congrats to everyone who suspected I’d have a modern-day fairy tale!) There’s a lesser known fairytale I’ve gotten a few requests to retell for my Timeless Fairy Tale series, but it’s the kind of one I couldn’t easily adapt to the world because…reasons. So I decided to pull it out and had a blast combining it with an Urban Fantasy setting and giving it a big makeover. Who wants to make a guess what fairytale it is? Leave a comment down below to share your theories with all the other Champions!
And also, who is dying to see the cover?? I’ll be revealing it piece by piece on Facebook and Discord this weekend, and let me tell you, the cover tells you a lot–including the new series title! 😀 (Don’t worry, I’ll post the full cover here on the final day.)
Our heroine for this intrepid tale is 22-year-old Hazel, a wizard and heir to the rather magical House Medeis. With each new section of the cover I unveil, I’ll be adding a little bit about her story! By the the time the full cover is unveiled, you guys should have a pretty decent description! (Although it won’t be the final one. I’m AWFUL with descriptions, uggghhhh)
Thanks for reading, Champions! I hope you are enjoying this process–I’m having a blast!
oMGggggggg i’m so excited!!!!! By the way, do you know roughly what date the next enchantress book is coming out? Its amazing.
King Thrushbeard?
hey kitty is it rapunzel ??
Thank you so much kitty for writing a new book. I love you’re books because when I read them I feel like I’m there with the characters and that a happily ever after is possible. Thanks again
Yeah!!!!!
I’m so happy you’re excited!!!
Is it Mulan-inspired? I remember you saying you loved that story and wanted to include it in the Timeless Fairy Tales, but you hadn’t planned for a country that would fit. Super excited for this new book, regardless! I’m glad you’re having fun with it, and I can’t wait to read it!
Ahaha I do want to do Mulan–I actually have a Timeless Fairy Tales Round II in the back of my mind where Mulan fits, but I’m still kind of nervous about it.
I love Mulan. LOVE IT! So I really don’t know how I could possibly do it justice…
Oooooooh YAY!!! I can’t wait for this! And it’s going to be a series? Double whoop! (Although I gotta admit I’m not overjoyed about the hairless cat that’ll show up in it?)
Hahaha, hopefully you’ll like her owner! 😉 (The cat doesn’t show up too much, though. An overdose of her owner might be a bit much, lol.)
This timing is perfect, Kitty! Life has been stressful lately, and I was quite literally just thinking “I need a new KM Shea book. Her books are perfect when I’m stressed, and I’ve read all her others three or four times…” And here it is! Something new! True, it doesnt release until February, but for you, I can wait! Thank you for being my cozy safe place!
I’m sorry life has been stressful. 🙁 But I’m so glad my books can encourage you–and hopefully make you laugh!
My guess is either one of the fairy tales that involves the heroine wearing out a pair of iron shoes (Enchanted Pig, Black Bull of Norroway), or The Smith and the Devil, where an intrepid blacksmith tricks the devil into teaching him magic secrets. (Magic Forged made me think of ironwork and blacksmithing, but I may be totally off the mark.)
Ooohhhh, those are some obscure fairy tales! I hadn’t actually heard of the Black Bull of Norroway one!
In addition to the iron shoe thing, it’s one of the ones that involves climbing a glass hill. It’s one of the more bizarre iterations of the basic East of the Sun, West of the Moon overplot, which you also hadn’t done yet that I know of.
Well I’m totally just throwing out a random guess (mostly because I am unsure of all the fairytales you have already done including the shorts) but I’m going with the Princess and the Pea. (Hopefully you haven’t done that already and I’ve forgotten). I feel like Hazel could be ignorant of her heritage and stumble upon the wizard world on accident after a storm, only to be proven the heir after some weird magical trial that only wizards would be able to feel being done to them.
Kitty has written a Princess and the Pea. It’s amazing. One of my faves even though it’s one of her shorter ones.
Here’s her post on it: https://kmshea.com/book/the-princess-and-the-pea-timeless-fairy-tales-prequel/
DaFox nailed it! It’s free, too, so I hope you enjoy it! 😉
