Kitty, thank you so much for doing the reading challenge! (Not that I ever need an excuse to read/reread, especially your books, but I love having the visual imagery to go with the stories!) I can’t wait for Trial of Magic, but like some others said, please please prioritize your health over the book! Books are great, but you’re one of a kind. (P.s., I’m praying for you.)

I’m probably going to get some bad vibes from people, but I didn’t like the Evariste picture very much. It has great action and I love the gate, but to me, Evariste looks like a 12 year old, and I just can’t picture him that way. Maybe it’s because I’m older and I want him to look like he is at least 20 years old. And, once again, being older, I’m not a fan of Anime art and his portrait looks more anime to me than the other pictures. So, if he does show up on the next, or subsequent covers, I’m looking forward to see who they pair with the Angelique model they’ve been using. He will have to be at least 20 years old then, because she looks like a young lady, to me.

I have to say that I agree. At first I was thinking the picture was Acri, because, while the books say he is about Evariste’s age, I picture him as younger because, in my mind, he acts more immature than Evariste does, and he has used Evariste’s portal magic before. So, I was a little surprised to find out that the picture was supposed to be Evariste. It made sense once it was explained, but I, too, thought he looked way too young to be “a few years older” than Angelique.

With that said, I also have to say that I love the art for itself. Each picture is beautifully done. I’m no artist so I’m a little hesitant to print them out and color them as I’m afraid I’d just ruin them with my bad color selection and application. I have a few nieces who are budding artists. Maybe I’ll send them to one of them and ask them to color them for me so I don’t mess them up. So thank you for the pictures, whoever drew them.

Loved the prizes. I’d always wanted an official picture of Evariste. Will he feature on the book covers of the future FTE books?

And I just can’t wait for end of July to come. FTE is my favourite book series written by you, though SAoR comes a close second. But Kitty, please don’t overwork yourself.

I totally didn’t know about the reading challenge, and coincidentally (or maybe it was just pure luck?) I finished rereading the timeless fairytales and fairytale Enchantress again just a week back! I finished the quiz right now cause the questions are pretty easy and I absolutely LOVE the prizes, I always wanted a pic of Evariste badly because I really wanted to know how he looked like! ( I actually didn’t understand that it was one of his portals at the back, I was thinking that its the Snow Queens mirror he’s coming out of😳)

Lol I actually thought it was the mirror at first as well, but Angel is supposed to be pulling him out of that, and the mirror thing doesn’t happen until the 4th book. So my mind jumped to his portals! (The way he was reaching out of the portal makes me think it might be the scene where evariste gets captured b the chosen)

I literally just finished reading Reign of Magic last night. I have enjoyed these books so much. I started with the Snow Queen books and then made my way through the Fairy Tale and Enchantress Books. I mistakenly thought that the Enchantress books were a trilogy. I was both crushed and elated to be wrong.

Yes! I too had this problem/enjoyment. I started reading thinking it was just one book and then it wasn’t wrapping up so I thought, “2 books then!” And again it was the same so I thought “obviously a trilogy, that makes sense” and then I was both mad and excited at the same time because I absolutely love love love the story and characters and can’t wait to read 3 more books about them. Love the books, love the surprise prints, love you, Kitty!

I totally was thinking that too when I read the Fairytale Enchantress series last year! Though in my defense the only other series of Kitty’s that I had read by then was H of B and M which was a trilogy. Half way the second book of Fairytale Enchantress I was starting to realize that there was no way the story would complete in the next one and a half books unless the books were extremely amazingly LOOOOONG!

Loved the prizes! And I’m glad to hear you think ToM will come out the end of July. But, seriously, don’t send yourself into a health crisis over this. The summer doesn’t officially end till September! But knowing you, I’m sure you are thinking of all the other books you want/need to write (Second Age of Retha, Elves of Lessa, next series in Hazel’s world). Just remember we love you and your gift for lifting our lives; so don’t over do it!

I got started on the re-reads early, too! So I just finished Reign of Magic a few minutes ago. I hopped over here to the blog to see if there was an update for the release of Trial of Magic and YAY!!!! There is!!! Ok. End of July. *deep breaths* Almost there. When we have an actual date, I’m taking off from work that day so I can stay up all night reading it.

Ok… Next up is Twelve Dancing Princesses (my 2nd fav of TFTs) and then Snow White (my least fav but still good)

I’m with Deanna. I take the day off too! I can’t concentrate on work anyway, which makes me extremely useless so I figure, why not. That way I can enjoy the book completely guilt free. Plus, it makes for a nice long weekend, and sometimes it’s nice to have a day that is completely devoted to doing something you enjoy! Heavenly!

It’s Evariste! 😀 The artist was able to get one of his gates in the background–which I was impressed with because I imagine it’s hard to get a basic description and create art without having any grasp of the story!

Man, I feel like I cheated – I knew the new book was coming out this summer so I started rereading all the rest (there are a couple that I really don’t like). Then went through practically every other series Kitty’s written. I just found Second Age of Retha on the blog and I’m working through that one – not much of a gamer, but as usual the dialogue is fun.

However, I’m running out of books to read…really looking forward to the new book 🙂

Hahah, thankfully normal books don’t take me nearly as long to write as the Angelique series does. But unfortunately as long as I work on Angelique and Second Age of Retha, it looks like I’ll probably only write about four books a year.

I’m now nearly done with the third Retha book. I have to say your attention to world building is amazing – I almost feel like I could play a MMOG without being a complete noob.

I also laughed for a good five minutes at the pirate scene. Did you plan for that seamless connection with the ongoing joke that started in book one? You always find ways of incorporating some throw away scene, joke, or bit of dialogue and make it critical for the storyline without making it feel like a stretch. It’s so much fun to see how you weave it all together.

Definitely willing to wait longer for the quality books! And be careful with Magiford or you’ll end up with another series that so interwoven and complex that it takes a year to write each book 😉

*Only* four books a year! I’m still flabbergasted that you are getting more than one book a year done. And as much as I always eagerly anticipate every book you put out, I still feel like anything over one are bonuses! I know its and indie thing to get as many books out as fast as possible, but I am a busy, full-time day job worker who can’t seem to to get even draft 1 of an already started book done in a year!

The general goal is to finish before Trial of Magic comes out, so I’d say aim to finish them by the end of July! 🙂 (And we won’t yank the quizzes down or anything after that, so don’t worry about finishing in time. We’ll eventually put the prizes up on the website permanently!)

2021 Reading Challenge

It is time, Champions! Summer (in the Northern Hemisphere) is here which means it is time to READ!


2021 KM Shea Reading Challenge

To celebrate the summer release of Trial of Magic–the fourth book in the Fairy Tale Enchantress series–for this year’s reading challenge we picked out five books for you to read that will prepare you for Trial of Magic. They are: Twelve Dancing Princesses (Timeless Fairy Tales # 10); Snow White (Timeless Fairy Tales # 11); Apprentice of Magic (Fairy Tale Enchantress # 1); Curse of Magic (Fairy Tale Enchantress # 2); and Reign of Magic (Fairy Tale Enchantress # 3). Read the books, then take the quizzes linked below for some themed prizes!


Planning this event made my inner librarian downright gleeful. I previously worked in libraries for a number of years,  and every year libraries make big pushes for children’s’ summer reading programs. Sometime libraries have adult programs, but they usually aren’t nearly as cool, so here’s to us adults! (And kids if you’re here, too!)


Everything kicks off with this post and goes until the release of Trial of Magic. (Which–we’re crossing our fingers, hoping, and praying that it will be released at the end of July!) This blog post has links to all the reading challenge books, as well as the links to the quizzes you need to take to get your prize. (They’re one question each, so don’t feel too intimidated! 😀 ) There is also going to be a BIG sale on the books in the Timeless Fairy Tales series and Angelique’s series, but I’ll announce more about that later since those won’t be coming for a few weeks.
