Magiford vampires are my all time favorite vamps. I love the droll, dry sense of humor, speech and boldness to say what they want, when they want and how they want no matter the rudeness and the expectation all will fall in line with them. I was pretty excited to see another vamp with Killian’s personality. I liked the dialog between Jade’s coworkers, very funny, BUT, felt a lot of their interactions went on too long thus becoming a bit boring. Their entrance to the hospital room at the end was perfect & hilarious. Can’t wait for the next book and so hope there will be more Magiford vampire stories in the future. Thanks to one of my favorite authors, you’ve given me many hours of pleasure!

I was hoping for more background on why the task force didn’t react to the elder who terrorized Jade half the book and didn’t see his other side with Conner walk in a kiss Jade. Sarge, who realized how dangerous Con. Was remained unfazed while he kissed Jade while she had been wrestling with her hurt and didn’t seem happy he was kissing her, let alone in front of everyone. Everyone on the task force was spooked with Ruin, but they’re all of a sudden ok? She had a gun on him every time they met for her security. He hurt her and she told Sarge her family would come get her if they heard about him, but a week goes by without mentioning her family even though she almost died and a notorious elder saved her? They’d be all over that. The ending just seemed so off from the rest.

I wondered about that kiss too. I was thinking Connor was wanting the rumors to spread far and wide that he was.claiming her and thus that the dragon and any of her hired guns need to keep their claws off. He is that worried and. probably explained this strategy to Sarge. She is on a dragon’s hit list. That being said he needs to explain this to Jade ASAP because it did make her very uncomfortable.

I think a lot of what we’re seeing are Jade’s perceptions and understandings and not so much the nuances of her family. Her brothers know and would take into account that she was not in immediate danger due to Con being the one to drop her off.

Also, she clearly had an established relationship with him at work and in her private life and her coworkers would know that. There are scenes with her getting all mopey because she hasn’t seen him. Would that have been obvious to her coworkers? Maybe, they are more aware of several nuances regarding Jade and Con that she doesn’t want to acknowledge about herself? I read the kiss as something that shocked people into inaction rather than them being ok with it. I also read their interactions differently, her team seems to understand that she is being cautious around an elder vampier because she is a slayer and not because she believes he is a problem so his romantic interest being declared with a kiss might be understandable to them. Also, since a very dangerous vampire who can take down a dragon engaging the strongest member of the team…maybe it was more of a “don’t antagonize him so the situation doesn’t get dangerous.”

Agreed!
I also might think that sarge didn’t react to it because Considine must have declared himself to them and upper management before they let him join, no? They must know he only joined to protect Jade who he is in love with.

I also think everyone shocked into inaction too. We just haven’t seen the throw down afternath. It’s coming I know it .

This! I thought that scene needed a lot more context.

Even putting aside the inappropriateness of someone kissing one of their new coworkers on their first day, Jade is still wary of Constantine and didn’t show she was interested in him kissing her in any way. The whole room should have freaked out.

Almost hate to say I love the short story even more than I loved the book (Games of Enemies and Allies) because the short doesn’t stand on its own without the book. But oh my, I laughed so much reading this short! It has added to my enjoyment and appreciation of the book and series. The perfect coda to the book. Thank you!!!

I find that the short stories are my favorites too because there is so much more packed into so few words. Kitty is exceptionally skilled as an author and it really shines in her short stories. My favorites are now “surviving magiford” with Chloe and all the cameos that are in there and the “annoyed eminence.”

This was the conversation I wanted to hear! I get it didn’t fit in the book, but I so wanted to hear this! I, too, look forward to the O’Neil Familu reaction.

Can you please write about all the Magiford characters forever?

Seriously, I enjoy them so very much! I read around 150-200 books per year, and hands down, I will always happily put down any of them to read a Magiford series when they come out – and sometimes because I am struck with the need to do a reread.

In your latest series, I love Jade’s inner monologue, I love relationship between Considine and Killian – especially the unspoken parts, and I love the overlapping POVs between series. It is flipping fantastic that Considine woke up those slumbering vamps, it makes me chuckle out loud. I also love these sort stories that peer into more (like Josh & Momoko). I love it all!

So, please, please, please keep writing!

I agree with you that I want all the Magiford I can get, but Kitty has other worlds on the back burner. I’m waiting for the last two books of Angelique’s story! Also another Lessa book sometime.

I thought it would be about Considine strong-arming his way onto the task force. I loved it, but I got myself hyped up about that. I don’t suppose you have a short story about that? 😉

I really appreciate your short stories and how quickly you put out the books. Please don’t think that wanting another short is in any way a lack of appreciation for all the things you do for us. I’m just greedy. Sorry.

I love your stories! Thank you for sharing them with us.

Just finished rereading book 3 of Pack of Dawn and Destiny and was delighted to see a maskless Jade and Considine as part of the Task Force cleanup crew in the warehouse. *squeal!* So. Fun!!

Loved this short! I can never get enough of Killian, Josh and Rupert. Happy to see things have progressed with Josh and Momoko after their meet-cute in book 3 of Hazel’s series. ❤️

I want to know how Killian’s sibs are reacting to this! If total strangers unaware of the cuckoo in their midst are squawking at Killian, I shudder to think what those who were in town to figure out what Considine’s up to will theorize. Have they decided he’s gone off the deep end? They will likely be a little concerned this is a ruse. Margarida will be ready to commiserate and tell him how proud she is in a touchy feely way that makes me want to porcupine. (Yes, I know that’s not a verb, and no I won’t apologize.)

You know, now I’m curious: if Killian really wants the other elders in Magiford to wake the heck up and stay with the times, I’m surprised he hasn’t rocked a few boats a la Considine (setting things on fire, ruining folks financially). Or maybe he has? I’d love to hear about some of those hijinks (because there would definitely be hijinks).

At any rate, loved this short story, because it has 4 of my fave vamps in it. 🙂 Josh, Rupert, Killian, AND Considine. And it’s told from Killian’s POV which makes it extra awesome.

Thank you so much! I loved enemies and allies and was waiting hopefully for the snippet 😀
I feel like Josh’s scrapbooks are inspired by the sort of thing a 7 year old might make with a proud grandma-really bright cheerful colours, the pages warped by pva glue drying, lots of badly stuck down glitter (because missing the chance to glitter bomb Considine would be tragic) and colourful stickers all over. I think Josh would commit fully to the bit and it would have the mass prouduced stickers where you fill in the child’s name ‘killian went to the beach!’ ‘killian’s summer memories’ ‘killian’s christmas day’, newspaper clippings of anything at all that mentions killian. Contrasted with the pictures of Killian looking dark and moody and calligraphic handwriting. Yes I’ve overthought this 😂
Josh is one of my fave characters (I have so many favourites though, I love Magiford)
Hope the virus clears up for you soon, take care
x

Thank you so much for that visual- it made it so much better : )
Also, 100% agree- Josh is awesome
Short story about him & Momoko would be adorable. Although my brain is still trying to process that reality as my mental image of him is kind of stuck as an older guy on the short side.

You have overthought this and I’m here for it. I think there should be a few newspaper clippings where Considine had to work to figure out which side of the page was the reason for inclusion. My grandmother used to send us clippings like that (a guy my Dad went to high school would be quoted in one of the stories, or a company started by a man she’d met at our house for dinner might be running an ad). But it’s the calligraphy that just nails it for me.

It was mentioned in passing in another story, iirc. Also not shocked that Hazel is “helping” the romance along. That seems very on brand for her.

I love this short story. It’s amazing! I really wanted to know how Killian would react to Considine’s use of magic and this story satisfied my imagination. Now the only parts of the story I’m waiting for in book 3 is how Jade’s family is going to react and I would love to see more romance in book 3 too!

Oh my. My first reaction was squealing when I read about Josh and Momoko. I knew he needed someone, although this was a pleasant surprise. Also, When Considine says, ‘Surprise’ I totally imagine him waving his hands with a big smile. Also, I love that Josh scrapbooks.

Short Story: Annoyed Eminence

The reviews are in, which means it is time for a bonus short story! The Games of Enemies and Allies is now out, and the reviews have been pouring in like crazy! I actually lost power Friday evening (the day of the launch, ahahah) and didn't get it back until Sunday afternoon due to a snow storm. So after a weekend of shoveling, cleaning out my fridge, draining the pipes in my house, and lots of other crazy stuff, today was the first chance I really had to sit down and observe what is happening. All I can say, Champions, is: WOW! Thank you so much for the crazy number of reviews and ratings you have left on Goodreads and Amazon, and thank you so much for the support you have given this series. I'm always amazed at how detailed and engaging the Champions are at writing reviews; some of them are more interesting to read than the book description! :) To express my thanks, here is the bonus short story: The Annoyed Eminence. (It has a LOT of spoilers for The Games of Enemies and Allies so skip this if you haven't finished the book yet.)

I've had a lot of fun writing the Drake vampires as side characters in this new series, and I'm so happy I got to show them even more in this short story! What kinds of things do you think Josh includes in his scrapbooks? Quick reminder that book#3 in this Magic on Main Street series is coming in early April. I am sorry for the delay but my writing speed was already slow due to my health problems, and I'm actually still sick with whatever virus I picked up right before the launch of Magic on Main Street book 1--this weekend didn't help me, ahahaha...hah... Anyway, I'm working hard on book 3, and hopefully it will be worth the wait! I’m also sharing the easier version of the Spot It tracker that includes the names for all the Places and People in The Games of Enemies and Allies. Click here or on the Spot It image below to get the “easy” version of the cameo tracker. Since the tracker only includes the NEW cameos that didn't already appear in the first book the tracker had a lot fewer things to find. Thanks again to Vin, our faithful Discord Leader, for working with me to make this fun game. Were you able to find all the cameos?
