Greetings, Champions, are you ready for Chloes trilogy, Gates of Myth and Power? I’ve been working on this series forever, and it was important to me to play with the Hades and Persephone myth in a new way, so I can’t wait to share it! But since we still have some time before King’s Captive launches on December 16th–the pre-order link isn’t up yet, either, but we’re working on that–here’s some ideas of what you might want to do to prepare during the wait!
Warning! The following blog post will have a few tiny spoilers–ie: Chloe’s favorite food–so if you’re the kind of reader who prefers to go into a series totally blind, you might want to skip reading this post! Otherwise, read on!
First, if you want to squeal and theorize with other Champions, I’d suggest joining one of our communities!
Things to do:
Join discord, or the Facebook Group: Already both groups are counting down until release day, but the big reason I suggest joining is for the talk that will explode in both groups after King’s Captive goes live! If you really want to go down rabbit holes with wild theories, Discord is the place for you! If enjoy more casual chit chat and want to see what parts of King’s Captive everyone liked, and talk about your favorite characters, the Facebook Group is where you want to go! Also, this year I’ll also be posting a spoiler blog post for you blog post commenters to talk on, too! (It’ll come out early in the morning on the 16th!)
Take the “Which Supernatural Are You” quiz! (It hasn’t been updated with a new type of supernatural, that will happen after King’s Captive launches!)
Next, if you want to be as “in the know” as possible, then I’d suggest a re-read of the Magiford series where Chloe appears!
What to read:
Hall of Blood & Mercy short story: Sincerely, House Medeis: While events from HoBaM are important, it’s the short story where we get our first glimpse of Chloe in her cat form in the entire world!
Court of Midnight and Deception trilogy: Chloe, with her ability to shift from human to a black housecat, is mentioned twice in this series in her cat form, but you’ll also want to familiarize yourself with events from this series!
Pack of Dawn and Destiny trilogy: Chloe is seen twice in this series, and her books take place the year after the events of Pip’s books, so Pip’s series will put you in the best position to know what’s going on in the world of Magiford most recently.
Book Party Fun: Do you want to theme your reading time? Then I’d suggest having these things on hand…
Your favorite donut: Chloe has a sweet tooth for donuts, as you’ll find out on the first page of The King’s Captive!
A glass of your favorite type of milk: cow, coconut, goat, oat–whatever kind of milk you like, Chloe also loves!
Ambience music: If you like having ambience sounds or music on in the background while you read, or maybe if you want to listen to ambience music ahead of time to prepare, I highly recommend this one hour ambient music Youtube clip!
Reminder that The King’s Captive will launch on December 16th, so mark your calendars! I don’t have a pre-order link just yet but at the latest it will be available for pre-order about 1 week before the release date. And, for those who are especially curious, here’s the description for King’s Captive!
I can turn into a housecat.
It’s a fun magic, except in a world filled with vampires and werewolves, it doesn’t exactly make me a powerhouse. Instead, the supernatural community has classified me as an outcast, which means one thing: Picking on me is open season all day every day
The local fae are the worst of all, and it’s during one of their regular “capture the cat-girl” sessions that I shift into my cat form and meet HIM for the first time.
Noctus is so powerful his magic radiates off him like a sun, and my fae captors can barely look in his general direction. And then my life gets even more terrifying when Noctus decides to take me with him. As a pet.
Why did he pick today to “adopt don’t shop” a cat?
It gets worse when I realize he’s an elf, a ruling race of supernaturals that was supposedly killed off centuries ago.
But he’s not just any elf, no. He’s an elven king, with heaps of secrets to protect. Secrets that I am quickly learning since he includes his new pet in everything from breaking into buildings to inspect classified paperwork to tracking down sketchy supernaturals.
All this means is if he gets even a hint that I’m not a real cat, I’m going to find out firsthand how elves treat their prisoners.
So, escaping Noctus is priority # 1. How hard can it be? (Answer: very.)

Not including today we’ve got eleven days until launch day! Keep an eye out for updates, though. 😉 It is Christmas time, and I do love gifts…
Thanks for reading, Champions, and have a lovely week!
