I loved all of the freebies about Rakel and over the course of reading her story, I fell in love with her character. I know you have her story pretty much finished, but is there any chance that you could have a Stil or a new character run into Rakel or Farren’s diary or something just so we can discover what Rakel’s mage school is all about? Please?

Seeing your comment made me skip around my office because I LOVE it when I think on the same wavelength as you readers! Don’t worry, Steinar’s journal will play a bigger role in the Timeless Fairy Tale series, and he records what happens with Rakel and Farrin. 😀

I’m giving Dragon a go, too, but it’s taking some getting used to. If I may suggest something to lessen eyestrain in the meantime (until you finish training Hiccup there :P), my alphasmart neo has been a lifesaver. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically a portable word processor with memory and a small, non-glowy screen (and an amazing battery; one charge lasts me for about three months); they’re discontinued, but you can get one for $30 on Ebay, and there are often some for even less. Between my day job, my writing, and the fact that all my friends have moved and are reachable on facebook, I can spend 12+ hours on the computer/day, so I’ve switched over to the neo for writing and have had *far* less headaches :D.

Anyway. Thanks for the freebie! I’m really excited you’ll be anthologizing them-love reading things on my kindle (see: computer eye death) and am looking forward to that :D.

Oohhhh, that’s smart. I think I’ll have to get something similar! I’m with you. I’m on the computer a lot for writing, and then sadly most of my hobbies involve screens or small print. It’s a no win situation. 🙁 (Also, I’m glad you liked the freebie!)

Thank you for the story. I love how Rakel is still growing into a more relaxed and confident woman after the novels’ end. Also I’m currently living in Germany and find it very heartening that Rakel is so understanding of and kind to people fleeing desperate situations, even though she knows it won’t necessarily be easy.

Thank you for the compliments! Rakel was a tough character for me to tackle–most of my heroines are lighthearted and don’t have the kind of emotional baggage Rakel has–so I was a little nervous about her book, but I still felt strongly about her emotional journey. 🙂 So I really do mean it when I say thank you–it’s great to hear she resonated with you.

I’ve experimented with my very own Dragon too! (carpel tunnel isn’t any joke either. Especially when you start dealing with it at 21 instead of at 40 like you might’ve been counting on…) It takes a bit to get used to it, and I struggle sometimes because I’m NOT good at putting my thoughts into spoken words where written words just seem to happen. And fantasy names and countries can trip it up a lot at first (though you’ll get some great word substitutions to laugh at. Especially when Dragon decides that your main guy has now changed nationalities from a fantasy land to Canadian.) I hear you about the accent thing. It took Dragon a bit to figure out what to do with my Michigan twang on my a’s.

I had to stumble away from my computer I was laughing so hard about the Canadian thing! Ohhh goodness! My pronunciation is horrid on a good day, so it sounds like I really better steel myself for some “fun!” (Also I hear you on the carpel tunnel thing)

Final Freebie Unlocked

Greetings, Champions! As expected, the final freebie has been unlocked: Mages. This is the longest freebie of the bunch and marks the beginning of Rakel’s next step in life. I hope you enjoy it!

As some of you might have seen if you took a peek at my coming soon page, this December I’ll be releasing a short story anthology that will contain all the Snow Queen freebies, and one additional–and LONG–unseen story that will focus on Rakel as she builds the first magic academy, and the romantic entanglements of a certain Robber Maiden. For now I’ll leave everything on the site, but when I release the anthology I’ll have to take down a few of the freebies due to Amazon’s rules, but I’ll be sure to announce when I’m taking them down so everyone can save them if they so desire. There’s no need to hurry, though, as the anthology is a long ways away.

Status update for Swan Lake: It is currently with Editor #1. She’ll keep it for a few weeks and rip it apart edit it–although I did proudly tell her I believe I actually used farther/further correct in several instances. (I think I can count on one hand the number of times that has actually happened, so we’ll wait to find out.)

In fun news, I’m going to be experimenting with “Dragon,” which is a software program that converts your speech to text. A lot of writers use it to write faster, but I’m also hoping it will give my eyes a break. (Take care of your eyes, everyone. Eye-strain is no joke!) So I’m sure I’ll be able to regale you all with stories of our strange relationship. As a Midwest girl I have a some-what funny/slurred way of speaking, so Dragon and I are going to be in for some fun times. I was “training” him earlier so he can hopefully get over my accent, and I have to say it feels very sci-fi–ish.

I thought you budding writers out there might be interested in learning about this software, because “Dragon” actually has a phone app that can connect with your purchased software, so you can dictate your story to him anywhere, and then upload it to your computer which will turn the recorded session into text. This might be super helpful for those of you who have a busy schedule. It actually can plug in to your internet too–so you can write emails with him–but I think I’m going to use my Dragon for strictly fiction writing. (Yes, Myrrhlynn was rather amused when she realized I call Dragon a He and refer to him as mine. I can’t help it–I adore “How to Tame your Dragon!”)
