We know that Cloe’s brother and Juggernaut interact in the task force. We know the task force had to deal with Seelie and Unseelie battles downtown. We know there is a video of Chloe’s takedown of the Seelie and Unseelie monarchs. I would like to see a short story of the task force’s evaluation of that battle and lessons learned that the task force could use in their work, as part of introducing a human to the task force.

If the next series is about Iris – she’s going to have quite a bit of trauma to heal from.

I would love to see a short about Blood and Ruin in the magical house as it was hinted at by Iris.
My favorite scene was when Blood put pictures on the PowerPoint demonstrating her relationship with Ruin. Heartwarming and hilarious!

As for my thoughts on the slayers, they seem to be well organized militant teams of individuals but nothing special. Unlike the short story involving Jade’s family, the reader doesn’t get the impression that a key strength for the slayers is their ability to assess and counteract weaknesses or mistakes as a unit AND that this is not usual for supernaturals or humans. To me, the slayers in the book came across as souped up SEALS or GREEN BERETS. An essential aspect of slayers (that I would liken to a colony of ants or the social structure of Japan) is one missing in the supernatural community.

I agree, but I guess that just highlights how the O’Neils are elite in their field.

Okay, my thoughts, my thoughts. I’ll be honest, it won’t be coherent.
Surely the next series is about Iris. We don’t have enough of a stake in any other female mentioned. I wonder if the Wizard Council will be able to pick a family from Magiford for the family-less House, or if they will import one in from another region, like Greyson and the Timber Ridge Pack. You know, I didn’t feel like the Slayers were overly regimented or militaristic. Sure, they’re very well organized and even throwing a bunch of families together, they’re still a well-oiled machine, but I think the rest seemed more easy going than Jade and her demand of perfection from herself. Vigi amuses me. He’s a more cunning vampire than some of his siblings, immediately thinking in layers as to the impact of Jade on Considine’s (and his) life. Staying in her good graces is going to keep him in Considine’s good graces, and he will be left alone for longer. I hope they get to see Jade and Considine fight together, so that they can appreciate her deadliness for what it is, and not just what she could do to them if she were inclined. But I was surprised at how hard they took it when Considine was missing. Perhaps they didn’t realize until then that they also saw him as a father figure. While I wasn’t surprised that the Blood nickname wasn’t actually meant to be hurtful, I was surprised at what it meant. That is something that should’ve been mentioned (to her) sooner. It was nice to see there’s more to Killian’s siblings than just lounging about, and I’m glad that a vampire (Considine) finally pointed out that it’s silly to hate humans when they were once the same. It’s sad that he can’t remember his birth name, but I was smug that my suspicion he and Ambrose were friends before being turned was correct. This is now our third pairing of a mortal and immortal. Noctus can easily keep Chloe from aging, and I guess it shouldn’t be difficult for a vampire slayer to be turned into a vampire. I wonder if a wizard can be turned. I remember shifters can have naturally extended lives if they don’t get killed first (Pip’s adoptive parents had grown grandchildren when they took her in), so I wonder if the mate bond with Greyson will also extend her life. I hope we get to see more of Jade’s team in the future. I really enjoyed her friends there. Oh, and it’s funny that her building basically gossips about her and Connor.
I’ll make another post of I remember anything else.

I think my fave scene in the series will always be when Jade scares the crap out of those vamps just by being a slayer. But I came here to comment as I’m re-reading Order (yeah, I read fast and I’ve been stuck home with a sleepy sick kid) and I’ve just realized that Jade and Josh have a lot of similarities. They both have a very unexpected world view. Hazel asking Jade if she’s nervous before the party and Jade’s confusion over a girl’s day just really drove that home to me. Plus, the short story – I feel like she and Josh would really appreciate each other.

BONUS STORY IDEA: maybe something with Jade’s brother? Like how they and the O’Neil’s reacted, (Jades dad ranting about Considine would be hilarious) and how much they care for Jade and worry about her. We didn’t see much of the bros personality or get a super huge feel on them. Also, maybe one of them found a romantic interest in their visit to Magiford during the Slayer. (Sunshine, maybe?!?!?)

I cackled like this mad woman I am when, in Chapter 16: ‘The minotaur huffed. “No! It can’t be! She said the other Court would be quelled by blood, followed by ruin!”’ *I see what you did there. Awesomeness!

Gisila’s arc is very ‘be careful what you wish for’. The best!

The whole book was inspired! There was so much character development! So much fun.

The arrival of the Slayer Stake gave me shivers. My heart ached along with Jade’s throughout the separation. The Tellier flag bursting into flames was EPIC in its simplicity and strength. There was so much of this book that I love, I am unable to put forth everything.

I look forward to possibly more of Iris and Vale, together or not, and I hope for a future for House formerly of Tellier.

I wonder if the Paragon will ask for a prophecy for the lost elven princess…

If a slayer’s blood is poisonous to vampires, what’s to keep their own blood from killing them if they attempt to turn into a vampire?

Danielle

April 09, 2024 at 05:46 AM UTC

You know, I did consider that Jade might die from attempting to turn, but I assumed it would be the interaction between her blood and Considine’s venom. Not that the attempt could succeed, and then her blood turn on her. That has me worried now. Hopefully her blood changes when he tries to turn her.

I was thinking of the same thing about wanting Iris in a book series. Also, the paragon asking for a prophecy would be such an interesting twist! One thing that was missing in the magic on main street books was the paragon! Such a hilarious character!
When Considine met Hazel, I was cackling at the creativity and genius of it. (Although, I did want to give Killian a talking to about being more considerate to Jade, lol)

Danielle

April 09, 2024 at 05:43 AM UTC

We saw the Paragon in the second book. He was the old guy asleep in the library when Team Blood went to question the librarian. We also only saw a cameo of him in the Pack of Dawn and Destiny. I don’t think he gets explicitly mentioned if it’s not one of the books dealing with his quest. That means the next series (which is also a sort of spin-off) will likely only have a cameo as well.

Yeah ur right. I just find it crazy that Kitty can balance each book and twist them together and give hints even when the book series are so far apart! Hopefully we see a lot more of the Paragon in Shiloh’s series (crossing my fingers hoping he’s a main character!) One of the reasons I liked Hall of Blood and Mercy was the unique relationship between the Paragon and Killian. They’re “besties”

I would love just a short stories magiford book! It would have more detail on the weddings of the characters and just some funny other side stories.

I was just thinking how awesome a vampire slayer and an elder vampire wedding would be. The vampires would beg for invitations while simultaneously being frightened about attending lol

Maybe more details on side character romances… Please think about it!

My most reread parts is the call from Jade to her family. I loved when Jasper was silently screaming and shaking her other brothers arms lol

The call for the slayer stake and her putting on her slayer uniform while her team tries to reassure her. Then her presentation at the slayer stake. I love when she claims him. Also the bat picture is adorable lol

This book was so much fun! I loved everything about it. Considine and Jade’s relationship, the slayer stake (very clever name), all the side characters, and of course Dragon! I absolutely loved reading about Jade and Considine fighting together. The way they use each other, swap weapons, and joke around was such a joy to read. It gave me the same excitement as watching a well choreographed fight scene in a movie. Oh and Considine is my new favorite character! Thank you Kitty for the best book of my year!

I have a theory that the reason that Iris saw Blood and Ruin was because of the House. Vale stated that oracles are kept in a same room without much in it so they can’t have a vision that will tell them how to escape. But the House already “met” them and must have liked/respected them. And after Considine joined the force, the future changed. And since Iris was being held in a magical House, she was able to get a vision because of it.
If we are making suggestions/taking votes on whose story is next: I vote either Iris, the wizard-less House, more on the task force, or Chole’s brother (which involves the task force)!
Also, what about combing Iris and the empty House. While an oracle can’t bond with the House, that doesn’t mean that a new group of wizards can’t bond with the House and be Iris’s bodyguards/friends/new family. Iris would certainly be protected by a wizard House and wizards. But if she was able to befriend them and see them as friends/family rather than bodyguards, it wouldn’t feel so stifling compared to regular bodyguards. And Magiford is changing, so to make it more interesting, it would be cool if her new bodyguards were a few wizards(maybe siblings/cousins) and a few other people of other types. Like maybe a few werewolves want to retire from the mercenary business (the task force took care of a couple groups of those). Etc.
Of course whatever Kitty wants to write about I will read, but those are my thoughts.

Timeline:
Hall of Blood and Mercy series
Court of Midnight and Deception series
Hunted
United – (The Lies of Vampires and Slayers) & (The Games of Enemies and Allies)
Fated – The Order of Blood and Ruin
Gath of Myth and Power Series

I was thinking there was definitely a connection with the house and Iris. Since the house is sentient then it would have been able to hear her prophecies and would have tried to help as much as a house can. Iris trusted noone but blood and ruin and it was the same with the house.

It will be interesting if we get more information on that.

Nicole

April 08, 2024 at 05:50 PM UTC

I was thinking the same – she seemed really reluctant to leave the grounds of the House which is consistent with that. I love the sentient houses so much. It’d be really cool if a new wizard “family” developed with Iris as the founder.

I left another comment above but it turned out to be a reply to somebody else which I didn’t mean it to be.
The last third of the book? Or maybe everything from chapter 23 was fire. The action was incredible. And the Slayer Stake scenes, Just wow — the action and the pacing! But here are the two scenes that made me actually bookmark them. They really touched my heart:
“I’ve lost family, too. And even in my short human days I’ve wondered if the pain is worth it. But on those rough days, when it feels like your heart is ripped in half, I want you to know you walk in love—and that will stay with you forever.”

“You can carry me in your heart as long as possible, but while I can become a distant memory, what I want you to feel as long as you breathe is the memory of love,” I said. “I want you to know deep in your bones that the loss doesn’t mean you were loved any less, and that you still carry love with you even if you can’t remember where it came from.”
And also, during the vampire gala, when they took a break in the kitchen, and Jade realized that Considine had been taking a lot of pictures of them so that he could retain his memories.

I love the book! It is so good!
I am curious, however: who does Landon think is more vampire handsome than Considine?
I loved the reason for Jade’s nickname: not one drop of blood.
And Orrin! That redemption arc was amazing!
Considine wanting slayer child? So funny.
Thanks, Kitty for another amazing book!

Loved this latest trilogy in my favorite storyline. Loved these two main focuses, and all the secondaries. Thank you for the opening book mentioning both the clocktower state of construction, and Chloe in her earlier Magiford days of constantly being chased, to clue us readers quickly into the timeline rewind.

Sorry, didn’t answer the questions. The Task Force is great, to me. I also like that stuff with just humans though. Got excited when I thought Netflix was going to start up a fun urban fantasy crime procedural after a certain movie, but I guess no one likes that except me?

Prefer the Task Force to vampire siblings, or maybe general slayer info, barring I love the concepts embodied by Jade and her family, along with the prepared for all situations ideas.
Which is why I was confused about why Jade hadn’t gotten early extensive training for her verbal interactions with humans problem. Then it finally dawned on me this was a critical device in the stories. (Plus not quite as upsetting to read vs Phillipa making a constant repetitive mess with Greyson.)

Favorite scenes. Nothing is coming to mind that struck me yet, like my favorites from the previous series. Possibly the House ejecting all those rotten wizards? At the time I was mentally too distracted by what it all may mean in the future to appreciated the scene as is. Probably will find a few during later rereads, when I’m more awake. From rereads these are, hands down, my favorite scenes from previous Magiford trilogies.

Hazel with ripped up bare feet, in her pajamas swearing into the Drakes, or wailing on someone rotten with a purse book.

Leila announcing her spouse choice, or the many times those nightmares, gloams and such were her darlings. (Had a moment of slight regret when they turned into unicorns. Similar to, but not the hard let down, how I always felt about the beast prince in stories getting turned back into a human, because the nightmares retained some elements of what made them fun.)

Phillipa rubbing Prince on Greyson’s mouth, Rio seeing this weirdness, then Prince tapping on her foot afterwards. (Least favorite overall main female character, but I was laughing so hard it hurt, and blinded by tears, for many minutes.) Pus the Alpha beat down when she thought they ate him.

Chloe getting offered the strawberry, and all the protected belly moments. Also, of course, Truck! (Chloe’s first book stole my heart enough that I didn’t mind a lot else, later, that otherwise would have irritated me.)

I loved this book! One of Kitty’s best ever. I simply loved Jade and Considine’s relationship dynamic and I enjoyed the moment when Jade met the Dracos’ offspring and it was hilarious when she told her family that Considine had been assigned as her partner. Also, I loved seeing how efficient the slayers were when Jade called in a slayer stake. I finished reading the book very quickly and couldn’t put it down. Most books that I find boring are difficult to finish but this one was over so quickly. It was over 400 pages long but it filled everything out so perfectly. Great job Kitty! I can’t wait for the next Magiford series to come out in December (probably/hopefully)!

MY HEART BROKE OVER CONSIDINE’S WORRY THAT HE WOULD FORGET JADE & I APPRECIATED THAT SHE REMINDED HIM OF THE POWER OF LOVE = “NOT TO FORGET TO LOVE!” I WAS SORRY THAT HAZEL & CELESTINA DID’T GET “GIRLS’ DAY OUT” WITH JADE, I WOULD HAVE ENJOYED READING JADE’S REACTION TO SOMETHING SO OUT OF HER EXPERIENCE. Why didn’t House Tellier unlock the front door for Jade and Considine?

Louisa

April 07, 2024 at 02:46 AM UTC

Sarge said: “And the Telliers wised up from when we last arrested them and barricaded themselves inside the House.” So you have to assume that there was more than the locked front door there, most likely a few pieces of furniture as well (that Kitty didn’t go into detail about) that Considine easily kicked away along with the door.

Great book. I loved the story and I will probably read it again pretty soon. And I love how Considine grew emotionally and how Jade came to love him. And her gradual evolution from socially anxious teammate wannabe to consummate leader was really great to see. But boy do I have questions!
Thinking about the Paragon who, in one of the Gate Of Myth And Power books, said he knew someone who knew about Shadows that wasn’t Noctus. A two millennium old vampire certainly would. And I can’t help thinking Considine is some sort of a unifier between the different Magiford séries or a common denominator because of his age. He had to have known about elves too.
The fate of House Tellier; how will that be resolved? I loved the House and it would be great to see it with new wizards.
I’m also a bit confused about the timeline between the different trilogies. Jade was interviewed in one of the Night Court trilogies. She appears in the second book of the Gate Of Myth And Power trilogy as part of the task force that stops the car with Chloe, Ker, and Noctus after the chimera attack.. And I can’t figure out where Considine enters the overall timeline.
Then there’s Vale, who I keep thinking I might have seen before somewhere. And Iris, what will happen with her? And the Shiloh thread.
So many possibilities!

Joy

April 06, 2024 at 04:33 AM UTC

So, I’m pretty sure Considine joins the task force approximately 2 months before the end of Pack of Dawn and Destiny. They mention that case halfway through the book. At the very end, the chimera is mentioned. So, presumably, thus series stretches from the end of Court of Midnight and Deception (since Considine mentions Leila becoming empress) to that point in Gate of Myth and Power. I’m working off guesswork, so feel free to correct me!

Karen

April 07, 2024 at 01:03 AM UTC

Now, I’ll have to go back to read the Pack of Dawn and Destiny Packtrilogy (No hardship). I think what just confused me was that last scene in the second myth and power book and exactly when that happened. The one where Chloe tried to distract Jade from Ker’s presence. Also, I applied for making my comment a reply. I didn’t realize I was doing it. It should have been a stand-alone comment, but I’m grateful for your answer.

the chimera that’s mentioned at the end cannot be the fight that Chloe broke up. the season is wrong, because Chloe broke up the fight in summer and it’s spring when Jade and Con go out, in addition to there being more than just Jade and Con there when Chloe broke up the fight.

Kitty you have done it again. Another fantastic book that was left my dying to know what happens next.

Loved the slayer stake in general, and Jade’s family members in particular. You can really see where she gets her code from.

One twist that I was so ready for and expecting that didn’t happen was that I was sure the former House Tellier would bond itself with Jade (as Jade is a slayer which is a wizard subgroup it is possible).

Unfortunately I guess I will have to wait till next series to learn who the House chooses. November can’t come soon enough.

Book Dragon

April 06, 2024 at 10:23 PM UTC

I don’t think the house formerly known as tellier can bond with Jade, or even Iris for that matter. Wizards are fundamentally different from the wizard subtypes in how they use magic, so the way wizards have to connect to a house allows them to have that bond with it while Jade or Iris wouldn’t have that extra ability to bond with it. I do hope the house-formerly-known-as-tellier gets a good new wizard family to bond with it though.

I think my favourite bit was seeing how gleeful Considine is about the Slayers and their badassery. Also how totally badass Jade and Considine are fighting together – they totally ripped through the Tellier wizards. Also, I reckon the next Magiford series, the one that goes straight on from this one, might focus on Iris the oracle. And maybe Vale the winter fae oracle expert.

Hah! Yes! Comparing Tellier wizards to tissue paper was a major insult…to the tissue paper!!!

Con’s glee is such fun after all his grumpiness with the Dracos. I have to imagine it’s going to make for some interesting moments with the slayer in-laws, though.

I loved the team’s interactions in general. Grove in particular, especially when he’s feeling crowded or threatened by Orrin’s presence!

I think this may be my new favorite trilogy! Constantine and Jade are too cute, and Orrin is hilarious. I guess we know why there were supernatural visiting house Tellier. It might have just been a description, but remember some vampires earlier in the series having orange eyes. That might have just been a description, but I wonder if there is more to the House Tellier deal than we know.

Danielle

I assumed it had to do with the quality of blood they were consuming, or how often they were feeding, but I guess that’s a more reasonable theory.
