I can’t wait for it to come out, please take your time. The longer the better, and I have a feeling I will loose sleep over this one. Also Empress Sonya is the best.

Speaking of dunces, PLEASE let Everiste be worthy of Angel. He needs to be awesome, powerful, and not a complete dunce. It’ll be so disappointing if this series ends with a painfully idiotic Steffen-Everiste or Isaia-Everiste. You already seem to be modeling him after your best male lead so far, Stil (or vice-versa), so I have hope.

I understand some women like weak men, but Angel needs a real partner.

Based on the teaser, I’d say there is more to learn about Pegasus! He is obviously Angelique’s main support and he cares a lot about her. And as I’m very excited to see how the story unfolds for everyone else in the books, I’m excited to see what Pegasus does and how he will further impact the story.

To add on to that in a Snow White short story when Everiste trys to call Pegasus it doesn’t work but when Angelique calls him he comes in an instant. Any ideas on why?

I’m so incredibly thankful that I found you as a writer, and I’m excited to read more about Angelique! I know you’re hard at work and just want to encourage you. Your books bring a lot of light to my days

I think Angelique needs to meet someone who runs a large kitchen (the mess Hall chef from C&C, or maybe someone who runs the equivalent of a homeless shelter or refugee camp). That person could then tell Angelique she’s wasted as a war mage: she should use her core magic in the kitchen! Someone who could chop all the carrots, onions, and meat for the stew while simultaneously feeding the fire (if the wood has sharp parts) would be in HUGE demand in a large kitchen, especially one run mostly by volunteers. And that might help Angelique accept her magic, because HER CORE MAGIC IS GOOD FOR MORE THAN FIGHTING!

Sorry, this might be a little off topic. But I’ve been wanting to say that since a few weeks after 12 dancing princesses came out, so I finally just blurted it out.

Hahaha!! I was thinking she should be an artist! Wood carver or something… but chopping veggies would be amazing!! Now I wish I had that power 😆

Thank you for the update and the teaser. I am on pins and needles to read the next Angelique story but always prefer good (or great) to fast. Cannot wait to see the stories from her perspective and love, love, love all the ones so far.

Thank you so much for all your efforts. I have enjoyed Angelique’s story and how it has correlated with the Fairytale Series you have written. Keep up the good work.🙂👍

I may be like 5 days late, but I am so incredibly excited for “Reign of Magic”, something tells me its going to be an extraordinary book going off of Angelique’s character. Her sarcastic sense of humor absolutely makes my day and whenever I need to laugh a little I reread the books and short stories published. Your short story, “The Duke’s New Clothes” is absolutely legendry.
I’ve been incredibly lucky finding you- as your books resonate with me in their humor, writing style, and pacing. Which leads me to believe that “Reign of Magic” will be a wonderful book. Especially when we get feedback from Evariste’s point of view. (How do you pronounce Evariste? Still Confudled!)
I’m so excited to see how much sleep I’m gonna miss because I couldn’t put “Reign of Magic” down!

I think it is pronounced as eh-va-reest. But I still end up pronouncing it as eh-va-ris-tay.

I love it! and I completely agree with Sonya-BOTH OF THE PRINCES ARE IDIOTS! Sweet idiots, depending on your perspective with the-older-one-who’s-name-I’m-forgetting, but remarkably … naive, I think is what what I’m looking for here.
as to length, the longer I get to enjoy a book, the better! I have absolutely no problem taking a week to read a book because the hardback copy happens to be three to four inches thick; I actually really enjoy reading one every five books or so, if I can find one with a story I like.
Long story short, I can’t wait to read Reign of Magic! Please don’t let up! All of us champions are cheering you on, so take as much time as you need to keep telling these great stories!

AHHHHH! One of my favorite authors likes to do biweekly teasers counting down to the release of a new novel, so this post ABSOLUTELY made my day. And yikes, wow that is a long book but I trust the wait will be worth it (from what it sounds like, you’re pouring your blood sweat and tears into it and I want you to know we as readers definitely appreciate it!) My only hope it that the sheer length of it won’t cause it to drag too much, because it sounds like this is the “gauntlet” aspect of the series (protagonist goes through trials/tribulations designed to push them past their breaking point) and I know far too many authors who mishandle this threshold. As such, I definitely agree with all the other commenters about taking your time! We’re all here for you Kitty!

Yes thank you thank you thank you!!! My sister and I are so happy for the teaser! And take your time no rush! The longer the better! Once again THANK YOU!!

Please let her rescue Evariste soon. This is really dragging on. I understand the need for suspense, but let him end up turning around and saving her if you need to. Geesh!

Hillary

July 21, 2019 at 07:36 PM UTC

Take as long as you need. As long as its amazing! I’ll probably end up re-reading it many times in my life. So a little extra wait is worth the future enjoyment. I love Angelique’s story.

But…. there is an annoying part of me that curses the wait every time I’m looking for a book to read in the name of procrastination.

Kitty

July 22, 2019 at 01:33 AM UTC

Awww, thanks Hillary! The length is freaking me out a bit because it means I’ll have to be on POINT with the pacing to keep it from getting unbearably slow. Buuuuuut there should be a few surprises for everything!

Yaaaaas!!! Empress Sonya is so fantabulous! Cannot wait for an enormously long KM Shea book (I almost died of happiness when the Revived was such a long book)!

Hahaha, I know the last two Retha books will be long as well, so there is that! 😉

I love going back and reliving these tales! Thanks for the itty-bitty preview. I just want to hug Angelique and let her rest her head for a bit the poor tired Enchantress (in training).

Kitty

July 22, 2019 at 01:36 AM UTC

Yeah, book 4 I think will actually see the greatest….I hesitate to say character growth….perhaps character unmasking? 🙂 Anyway, I sure do have fun driving her to her breaking point in this book so she’s ready for #4, buwahahahahaha!

This was amazing!! (Though now I have to go back and figure out what the boys were doing to spark such a reaction from Empress Sonya–I think this would be after Alexei revealed Odette to her.)

Kitty

July 22, 2019 at 01:36 AM UTC

Hahaha, you are correct! Sonya and Benno were the funniest characters in Swan Lake, but Sonya was especially because her reactions are so dramatic but also oddly cunning. 😉

Arletta

July 20, 2019 at 05:24 PM UTC

I totally agree; TAKE YOUR TIME! One of the things I love most about your books is that they are consistent across books and they are fun. So more of Evariste and the extra time it takes to get it right is soooo worth it. Very much looking forward to reading this when it becomes available. But also very willing to wait if it make it that much better.

Kitty

July 22, 2019 at 01:45 AM UTC

Thanks Arletta!
I really do think the extra time is helping–it’s letting me weave in some additional stuff that will set up for book 5 & 6, so I think it will also make the series better as a whole!

Completely agree with the other commenters. Take your time. I do not mind waiting. Esp if it means more Evariste. 😉

Thanks Shish! He’s in this book a tad more–which I would hope so given that it’s so much longer! 😉

Ahahah you get to see ALL THE CHARACTERS in this book. (Well, not all, but A LOT seeing as the Summit is covered.)

I can’t wait to see the summit from someone else’s point of view than Lucian or Ariane.

I’m so excited to see the Summit in her point of view. I’m also excited to see if Ariane and Lucien figure out why she seems a little afraid of other magic users.

Kinshuk

July 23, 2019 at 04:54 PM UTC

I thought elle would be the first to figure it out. She is normally super perceptive but then so is Lucien. Oooh I just can’t wait to read everyone’s opinion of evariste and his relationship with angel.

Ahh!!! I love it! As anxious as I am to read more of Angelique’s story- TAKE YOUR TIME!!! I wont say no to more scenes 😉 the longer the book, the more I’ll get to enjoy!

Kitty

July 20, 2019 at 01:14 AM UTC

Ahahaha, so glad you feel that way as it looks like book 3 will hit 150,000 words. (For reference, the Snow Queen books are roughly 78,000 each. The Revived was, I believe, roughly 114,000 words. So. Yeah. Really long.)

I agree with Jenn entirely! Also, thank you for this excerpt / teaser! 8D

Kitty

You’re welcome! I have more I plan to share, but part of it is trying to pick and choose how much to give away…. 😉

Reign of Magic: Teaser #1

I’ve been “Editing” Reign of Magic for two weeks now, but in truth I haven’t even started the actual editing part, and instead I’ve been writing and adding additional scenes. This book is enormous. It dwarfs The Revived, which previously was my longest published book, by a long shot!

I’m happy because I know all of these extra scenes are going to make the book better–there are two Evariste scenes I added this week that I’m fairly certain are going to make you all react in one way or another–but I’m a little frustrated because this is all taking so long. Unfortunately, I don’t really have a way to speed it up. (At this point I have so much invested in this blasted book I refuse to let it go out without the extra shine these scenes will add!)

But since you Champions have been so incredibly patient and loyal through this, I thought it might be fun to release a few teasers while we wait. Note: These extras will be unedited because–as I mentioned–I still haven’t gotten a chance to edit yet thanks to all the add-ons I’m writing.

I hope you enjoy!

“We have arrived, Lady Enchantress at Tsona Palace.” Emperor Yevgeniy smiled warmly at Angelique and motioned to the castle.

Angelique forced a smile—even though it felt bone weary and thin. “It’s lovely. You said Tsona Palace is your summer residence?”

“It used to be, Yes. Since my sons grew up we have not returned as often as we used to—though my oldest son would prefer to make his residence here given his passion for hunting and the like.” Yevgeniy squinted in the sunshine. “My wife opted to journey here after I left for the Summit, but it’s just as well. As I told the other representatives, Rothbart has made his home at Swan Lake—which is not far from here.”

“How fortunate,” Angelique said, feeling nothing of the sort. But she made her back straight and her posture perfect.

Kozlovka needs aid. I cannot fail them in this hour—and with luck Clovicus will be able to help.

The Emperor’s mount shied when he drew too close to Angelique and Pegasus.

“My apologies,” he said as fell back farther in the line of soldiers.

Pegasus had ignored the horse, but when it was no longer so near he snapped in its general direction, his teeth audibly clicking.

“Steady, friend,” Angelique murmured. She itched the crest of his neck. He swatted his tail like an angry cat before letting out his breath.

Satisfied that the constellation had been soothed, Angelique leaned back in the saddle, stretching her senses.

Kozlovka was a northern country, so although Summer had almost arrived the air was cool. The forests were a blaze of green, and the whole country seemed to smell of damp earth.

Angelique tipped her head as she carefully felt for anything magical or off. I can’t sense anything. But magic sensitivity seems to be an art that has continuously avoided me.

She stopped trying to sense the sorcerer when they were granted passage into the gleaming palace. “Pegasus, would you rather remain here, or return to the skies?” Angelique asked when they halted in a courtyard. “I assume sometime today I’ll ride out to start my observation of Sorcerer Rothbart, but I don’t know how long it will be until I am ready.”

She dismounted, cupping Pegasus’ soft velvet muzzle when he pressed against her temple.

He breathed deeply into her hair, then trotted back in the direction they had come, passing back through the palace gates—to the bewilderment of the guards posted there.

Yevgeniy shielded his eyes with a hand as he watched Pegasus. “Will he be alright?”

“Yes.”

Yevgeniy smoothed his beard. “Even with a sorcerer about?”

Angelique tried to discreetly fix one of her underskirts that made the skirts of her gown puff a little. “I don’t know entirely what he’s capable of, but I imagine if he feels endangered he’ll simply return to the sky.”

The Emperor whirled around to gape at Angelique. “Return to the sky?”

“Yevgeniy!” A beautiful woman with shiny blonde hair highlighted with gleaming streaks of silver glided from the castle. She was beautiful and stately with pronounced smile lines and a gorgeous gown.

It took Angelique a few moments to recognize Empress Sonya—for she and Evariste had only called on the Kozlovkan royal family once or twice—and Angelique hadn’t ever met either of the princes.

Empress Sonya smiled as she hurried down the steps and threw her arms around her husband.

Yevgeniy laughed, years falling from his haggard expression as he embraced Sonya. “What a delightful welcome home!”

“Don’t get too excited,” Sonya said. “For it has become painfully apparent to me that our sons—while sweet—are, in fact, dunces.”
